Phillip Joseph Nevin is a former Major League Baseball player. He played for the Minnesota Twins (2006), Chicago Cubs (2006), Texas Rangers (2005-2006) San Diego Padres (1999-2005), Anaheim Angels (1998), Detroit Tigers (1995-97), and the Houston Astros (1995). Phil Nevin attended El Dorado High School, in Placentia, California and California State University, Fullerton where he was awarded the Golden Spikes Award in 1992. He was also the "Most Outstanding Player" of the 1992 NCAA College World Series. He bats and throws right-handed.
During his twelve-season career, Nevin was a .270 hitter with 208 home runs and 743 RBI in 1217 games. He made the National League All-Star team in 2001. On May 12, 2007, Nevin announced his retirement. He is now working pre-game radio shows with the Padres.
Phil holds a special place in the hearts of JDRF members. On several occasions during his time with the Padres, Phil purchased blocks of tickets for use by JDRF kids and their families. Not only did they get to attend the game, but they got to come early, watch batting practice, meet Phil and take photos with him. He has a connection with these kids, as his sister has lived with type 1 diabetes for many years. He wants a cure just as bad as we do!
JDRF is thrilled that Mr. Nevin is back in San Diego full time, and that he and his family could join us.
